Weekly Waffle #82

I’ll start off this week with a bit of site admin now that I have figured out why the Ligtbox function isn’t working. I did an update mid with week some details but you should find things are working here.

No game night this week so a little bit more time to try and get some work done on the civilians for MERCS ready to carry on our game next week. Try as I might though I’ve just not been able to summon up any enthusiasm for them at all. Frist up is the fact that they are made of this resin plastic highbred that is just horrible to clean up so that takes an age to do. Then they needed a good scrub in soppy water to get the release agent off them before I could even get started on painting them. So not an auspicious start.

As I’ve said before the quality of these minis leave a lot to be desired so I decided to think about them as gaming tokens rather than miniatures. A bit of psychological trick but it seemed to help, a bit. Having said that though if you compare them to the tokens/minis that come with something like Zombiside they are still very poor quality. Because they aren’t inspiring in any way I decided to try and keep things simple, a bit of a bases and faces approach.

Just to that they didn’t drain all of my new found mojo I’ve been doing some work on Ben Hamilton for my WWX Confederates. He is an Under Boss in the game and he was the model that really sold me on picking the Confederates during the Kickstarter. I was hoping to get him finished this week but as I’ve already said the MERCS have taken up a lot of time. What I have done with him though is to get the main colours blocked in so it’s now just a case of bringing it up to the same standard as the rest of my confederates.

That’s been it on the hobby front for this week but I have seen some minis that I really want to pick up for a future project. Whilst reading through ‘Insight’ an e-magazine abut gaming I came across an article they have done on some miniatures from Atlantis Miniatures. Just for the record have nothing to do with these guys and have only seen their work in ‘Insight’ and on their web site. At the moment a lot of stuff is either out of stock or not available until ‘late 2016’ what it looks like they have some fantastic minis on offer. I’m particular interested in the Cave Troll (individual 2) and the Magma Troll (individual 2). With the Stone Troll (individual 3) and the Yeti also featuring highly on my wish list.

I’m not even sure what I would use these things for other than perhaps as monsters in Frostgrave. But they just look so nice that even if they don’t get used as game pieces they should make really nice painting projects.

That’s it for this week. Plans for next week are to finish off the MERCS I’ve been working on and then have a break for a week or so before I start the next batch. With the MERCS finished I’m hoping to get Ben Finished for next week and to make a start on my second set of Scouts and possibly the Black Hoof Scout. This will then round off the stuff I got on the Kickstarter and I can look at how I expand things with a few more mercenaries. I’ve also got the painting guide finished for Buford Nash and that will be up on the site on Monday.

So have a good weekend, enjoy the week ahead and I’ll see you all again next week.
