Weekly Waffle #84

Game night this week was going to be more RECON. We’ve decided to give it a few more goes to see if we can get to grips with it. To help Al out I’ve spent a week looking through the rules and going back over our previous games to see what makes sense and what doesn’t. Unfortunately I’ve had something of a rubbish week this week and haven’t been sleeping well, so when I get home from work late and sat down with a brew to chill out before heading to Al’s disaster struck. I simply fell asleep and didn’t wake up until the early hours having missed the game. So it will just have to wait until next time. On the plus side I had a really good sleep and felt a lot better the next morning.

On the Hobby front I’ve managed to crack on with the Blackhoof scout and got into something of a roll. As I mentioned last week I had been worried about how I was going to highlight the blue but after much prevarication I just got stuck in and I’m really happy with how it turned out. That inspired me to just carry on and go with flow until I end up with a finish model. Considering how worried I was when I first started on this model it’s turned out be one of my favourites. So much so that I may have to get myself a couple more and I may even look at converting one of the Golden Army Mounted Conquistadores to give a bit of variety.

Having finished the Blackhoof and feeling the call of the west I decided to make a start on Wild Bill Hickok. He was one of the add-ons for the Kick Starter and is part of the Lawmen faction. Notwithstanding the fact that it is really evocative sculpt that I would have wanted to pick up regardless of being able to use him in games having an existing Lawman force means he will get some use. He is supposed to have a bit of rag tag look to him with his frayed duster but is firmly on the side of the law. I’m happy with how things are going at the moment but need to think about building in a bit more contrast so I may end up lightening his trousers a bit.

Tatters turned up at the end of last week but I thought I’d save him for this week’s update. I was quite surprised when I looked at his stats card that he can only be used in “Big League” games, but he can be used by any Guild. I think that’s a nice touch to bring something different to games. His harvest markers are also an interesting concept that again brings something new to the game. The model itself is of the same high standards we’ve come to expect and I think it will be really nice to paint up. Although to be honest I have no idea on a colour scheme at the moment. The harvest markers also offer a nice chance to be a bit creative so I will be playing around with a few ideas over the next month or so.

I’ve also cleaned up and primed a few models I picked up at Adepticon earlier in the year that I was planning to use for Frost Grave. I’m not sure just what I am planning for these but my thinking was that if they are cleaned up an and primed I’m more likely to make a start on them and keep the variety going. I’ve also got a few ideas for something a bit different when it comes to basing them but I think it will take a bit of trial and error before I have anything worth sharing. But having said that it should make a nice project post on its own.

Anyway that’s it for this week so have a good weekend and I’ll see you all again next week.
