Gamers Grass Review

Reviews

I’ve been using the grass tufts form these guys for some time so when it was time to place another order I thought it was good chance to do a bit of product review. So first things first this is not some sort of sponsored review, I have no affiliation with the company and they’ve not sent me anything to review. It’s just what I like to use.

I think I first became aware of them after reading an article in ‘Figure Painter’ magazine and thought I’d give them a go when I was looking for something to use on my Guild Ball Bases. That fist order was for a few different types of grass to see which ones would work out best. They offer quite a wide range of colours and lengths but for that first order I stuck with the 6mm stuff and was really happy with it. The tufts themselves are self-adhesive and just peel off so you can stick them onto your bases. Although I still use a drop of super glue to make sure they stay put. As well as the height and colour options the tufts themselves come in different sizes, small, medium and wild. The small and medium are simple round tufts where the wild is more of a random shape, which is now my preferred option.

The website is a bit plain looking with no bells and whistles, but it is very clear and easy to use. You’ve got all the 6mm tufts in one section and then ‘other sizes’, which are range of 2mm, 4mm, 5mm and 12mm in another. Each of the options has a nice clear picture so you can see exactly what you are getting. Prices are shown below the image along with nice clear box to show if the item in ‘in stock’. Clicking on an item give you a bit more information, although there is only so much you can say about some grass tufts, along with some more pictures and the options to add them to your shopping cart.

Ordering is really easy with the payment being taken care of by PayPal. Delivery to the UK is £1.50 (at time of writing) which I think is very reasonable. Especially when you see how well packaged they are. If you’re further afield than the UK it will probably be a bit more, but if you order seven or more sheets they also offer free world wide shipping. So if you didn’t need that many and you have a couple of mates who want to try them you could club together and get free shipping.

On the delivery front I made my order on a Thursday and they were dispatched the next day. I received it on the following Tuesday. Which I think for international postage over a weekend was really good. I’ve ordered things from within the UK that have taken a lot longer than that. The packaging is also very substantial so there is very little chance of there being any damage during transit.

This order was for four sheets of Mixed Green (Wild) tufts with each sheet within the box being separated by a sheet of bubble wrap. The box also contains a business card and your invoice. The picture below gives you an idea on the number and size of tufts on a sheet.

I’ve gone for more of the mixed green tufts because I think for me they are the most versatile and the ‘wild’ option with there more random design are a bit more natural. Having said that the small and medium options could be better for you if you have a more specific design in mind. Simply by grouping them together you can create your own layouts. The pictures below show a couple of the other designs they do alongside the mixed green. The darker of the two is ‘2mm moss’ but I can’t remember what the other one is.

I’ve used these tufts on a number of bases but whilst they are self-adhesive I have always used a bit of super glue to make sure they stay stuck down. I don’t actually know if this is needed but if there is a way of going over the top when it comes to sticking things together, I’ll be the one to do it. In the pictures below the Guild Ball bases were all done with the ‘small’ tufts whilst the Wild West Exodus ones were done with the ‘wild’ tufts.

So that should give you a bit of a feel for these Gamers Grass tufts. There are other options out there, Army Painter is another one I’ve used, but I’ve found that these do the job nicely. They are easy to pick up and not too expensive. I’ve been using them for some time now and will continue to do so, so if you’re in the market for some grass tufts I can whole heartedly recommend you give these a go.

If that has perked your interest you can find more details on their website.
