Weekly Waffle #234

Gamming for this weeks weekly waffle has been limited to a bit of disrupted but very enjoyable D&D session. No one got killed, a first for us in quite a while, we made a bit of money, spent a bit of money and have now set our path firmly on a new quest that will probably see our DM do all she can to kill us. So whilst we did allow ourselves to become a little bit distracted whilst some members of the part were doing their own little things in town in the end we have ended up back focused on a common mission. We even have something of a firm deadline on this one so we will need to stay focused or it could end up going wrong, again. All in all, though I thought it was a good session and after our mini break I’m back in the zone. Looking forward to the next session.

On the hobby front I think I’ve had a really good week. Looking at things it may not seem that way but I’ve got a massive monkey off my back this week. For the last few weeks I’ve been really struggling to work out how the bottom part of the body should look. This has mainly been down to have some sections where the turquoise of the main body was and some areas that were just metallic but they didn’t feel joined up. So this week I’ve finally committed and gone with the metallic mainly because it was the easier option but once the weapon arms are on and the model is on the table it’s going to look ok. But the main thing is that for the first time in a long time I actually feel like I can get this finished and more importantly I feel like I will enjoy finishing it rather that it just being a chore. Now don’t get me wrong there is still a lot of the boring stuff to do in the form of the trim but it just doesn’t feel as bad any more. All things considered it’s been a good week for the body of the Warlord.

No as well as that I’ve just about finished the head which again is only a small element but it’s one more item ticked off. Although I do really like the look of the read head I’ve already painted so I think that will be the one that gets the most use.

Also this week I’ve been having a go at something new, or at least something I haven’t done for a very long time and that has been having a play with some decals. They aren’t normally something I would use as whenever I’ve tried them in the past they just don’t look good. However, I’ve been doing a bit of research about the best way to use them and I have to say that I’ve been really quiet pleased with how they turned out. To test the process, I started with a spare carapace I have for my Reavers and whilst I may not of picked the best one as it’s really easy to miss it when you look at the model on the table the process worked well.

With the test piece done I’ve added a few the Warlord for the weapon arms. I’m going to find ways of getting a few more into the project but I like how these turned out and I think it just adds that little bit extra to the finished model.

That’s it for this week. I’ve got a few surprises lined up for next which I think will be a bit fun and will be a change from gold and turquoise. I’m not going to say any more than that for now so until next week. Until then have a great time and hope to see you all again next week.
